Hey! This is James Weiss! James is a funny guy who got lost in life and found his passion in pond scum!

Microbes & Me
Переглядів 9 тис.2 роки тому
This is a letter to each one of you who feels lost in life. I’ll tell the story of me, James, which is a story of confession, passion and hope-with a hurting, clinically depressed protagonist, and a plot twist of him finding happiness unexpectedly in a tiny drop of water. . This is a long text but I appreciate anyone who is willing to read it to learn more about me! I want to say thank you to t...
Single-Celled Organism Dies 2.0
Переглядів 43 тис.2 роки тому
This single-celled organism is about to die. I recorded a VERY similar footage almost 4 years ago and it went viral. And just a couple of days ago, I found this one and it died in a very similar fashion. . As she says in my favorite poem, “Dying is an art, like everything else” . It’s a Blepharisma musculus, a cute, normally pinkish single-celled organism. Blepharisma are sensitive to light bec...
Single-celled Didinium Eats a Paramecium
Переглядів 30 тис.2 роки тому
Pardon my French but Merlin's smelly pants, what a scene! And it's in real-time!!! . Didinium is a vicious hunter, it has a arrow-head like cell mouth where it attaches itself onto the prey, releases toxins to immobilize it and opens its mouth wide enough to swallow the whole organism. . You can see in the first clip that there are needle-like structures appearing after Didinium touches the Par...
A Rare and Bizarre Predator - Actinobolina
Переглядів 9 тис.2 роки тому
Actinobolina is a bizarre single-celled predator, it has "tentacles'' which can be extended and retracted. Each tentacle is armed with toxin ejecting structures to immobilize a prey. When it extends its tentacles, Actinobolina stays still and waits until a prey touches the tentacles, when it happens Actinobolina’s toxins kill the prey even before it gets to ingest it. Actinobolina positions the...
The Weirdest Amoeba Ever!
Переглядів 49 тис.3 роки тому
This is a super interesting amoeba in real-time. It moves SO fast, I cannot get my head around it! What a stunning, complex single-celled organism, isn't it?! . I believe it is a Leptophrys, I found Leptophrys often but never seen this species before, it was much faster than the others I found. Can you see the extensions of its body that it sends out in every direction? Those are called filopod...
Tardigrade's Feeding Apparatus
Переглядів 30 тис.3 роки тому
The water bear eats an alga at 01:30 and a bigger alga around 4:00. It fails to eat a colony of algae at 05:00. . I think it's a great way to demonstrate how beneficial for microbes to be colonial, rather than being individuals! The colony in the first clip is Pandorina, a colony formed by many cells tightly packed together. The cells in the colony have two whip-like flagella, and the flagella ...

Blue Whales of the Microworld with Incredible Abilities!
As long as it was swimming, it was a bunch of chemicals that took in energy in order to keep each other from reaching EQUILIBRIUM. Everything outside of a cell is at equilibrium or headed that way. Everything inside a cell is not at EQUILIBRIUM and NOT headed that way.
Rest in peace shithead
i can imagine the person controlling the microscope being like "WHAT IS THAT!?" and there's someone in the background just as enthusiastic as them
水熊❤❤
Its a foraminifer
3:28 VICTORY DANCE IN FRONT OF ALL THAT ALGAE
i thought life on a multicellular level was brutal until i saw this
😥😥😥😥
spore is kind of different nowadays
It's so cute and I'm so sad but it will become life again
Um no once something dies it stays died nor will life come from it. That said the tissue and proteins it made will get consumed by other organisms that will help them stay alive longer.
Somehow seeing this single cell being perish has made me realize the true value of life and how it’s meaning is to merely immortalize yourself in human history This creature has accomplished such and now it is my turn to do the same
Sehr gute Aufnahme, wie Lacrimaria ein Rädertierchen erbeutet! Gratulation!
Since Microcosmos is shutting down will you be posting stuff again?
I partially agree with you. While DIC is very nice as an observation method, I wouldn't call it the ultimate method of observation. Every method has it's pro's and con's. DIC for example has a shallow DOF (using the entire NA), resulting in more bokeh and a smaller area in focus, but this is not always desired.
That thing has cool eyebrows
To be honest, that cell being swallowed full seems to have been dead a long time ago….
This made me really horny for some reason
This is sad ,the poor single celled guy ;(
an animal inside of a single celled organism? oh how the turns tabled
he looks like he's distressed fortunately he's not sentient, he is a bunch of molecules doing a cool thing dont think about that too deep and at a larger scale
It can still feel pain though.
It's little flagella keep swam as the death dissolve it body, rip little buddy
cilia not flagella
“Death of a Cell, Man”
Thanks God there aren't human sized things like that around us
Small form, but he left a huge impression on our hearts
"Mr. Weiss, I don't feel so good."
I LOVE WATER BEARS
Is this real time? Dumb question.... why did it go from wiggling its legs to exploding in a second?
What is this microscope name? I want to buy it. And how you get such good colors??
😢
sad :(
I searched up for cell dies dbz
Thanos’ Finger Snap.😢
Damn he was really fighting to live
Watching that little guy made me think that our cells are part of a colossal team that cooperates in order to prolong the life of itself and its neighbors - they fight like a champions right up to the last second. There's a moment when it seems that his injuries are healed, what a great recovery - suddenly he just dissolved into molecules looking like an ice cube dropped in hot water - never thought about the actual lifespan of single celled critters - It was immensely profound and sad when I realized that his demise is a replay of what's happening in quintillions of cells all over the world every moment even my own body carrying on the fight to keep us alive at the microscopic level without my conscious effort, well for the most part - anyways, I silently watched the video and at the end prayed over the tiny soul of Celly as the various goo and proteins were added to the totality of the great puddle from when we all came, respekt!
Unless they are ebola
Crazy!
yummy
epic germ moment
He was just a fucking kid.
All I could think of was the kirumi Tojo voice going like “IM NOT GOING TO DIE IN THIS HELL HOLE! FOR MY NATION, FOR MY PEOPLE. I. WILL. NOT. DIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE!”
I've never felt this much empathy for an animal no bigger than a strand of my own hair. How it clings to life, desperately reforming the leaks in itself while it scurries around in panic, with pieces of itself STILL hanging out of it, only for its body to just give up and collapse. absolutely heartbreaking
Lmao
I thoroughly enjoyed your post/comment, particularly the section about your first budget microscope! I've also started my own UA-cam channel with the aim of inspiring new passions. To contribute to this, I've detailed in the channel's description the three surprisingly low prices I paid for my initial three microscope acquisitions. Since the first one I bought, I rarely spend a day without looking at something through the eyepiece or the mounted camera of one of my 3 babies! I can’t believe that I’ve posted almost 150 videos in just few months. Finding the right names for each video characters is always the most challenging part for a novice like me!!!! Thank you for the great inspiration and keep up the good work!!!! Does my channel look like yours at the beginning? please let me know if you come by!!!!🙂
i must know what type of organism this is
So far enjoying your book!
Beautiful video

It's a blepharisma

Мучительная смерть
It made me sad that you were called names just for experiencing strong emotions. I hope you don't let it get through to you! I admire the compassion you feel towards these organisms, and your video descriptions always make me feel emotional, too
